It died? Just like EQ... the game is so far away from the original spirit as it can get, frankensteins patchwork monster of an MMO. Fucked up by generations of lackvisionairies and too many number pushing by people that have no connection with EQ whatsoever at SOE, paired with the worst strategical marketing decissions a company can make, add shitty, snotty, powerless customer service to that. Introducing RMT legally killed the rest.

Try classic for a while and you see what I mean, makes you experience something long lost - no, not gonna post any links. The people playing mostly do because of boredom without real alternatives, or for the social bonds.

So what do you expect?

Bullshit! getting loot today is just as meaningful as it was when pofear became live. Sure its a lot more intense now then it was camping spinechillers for a full cryosilk armor set. Man busting fear with a real raid was an amazing endeavor because I never knew if i was going to lose all of my gear or not due to corpse rot. But getting phat lewt was great then and it is still the same today.

It brings forth a feeling from within me that makes me quiver at the thought of saying goodbye to something that has been a major part of my life for the past 10 years. I am 27 now which means I spent a lot of my good years playing this game.

Everquest was there when I met my wife. It has been with me when I graduated high school and also became an eagle scout. It was there when I signed my recruitment papers into the Air Force. Glimpses of it was there when I could only visit the eq boards while I was in training for a year. It was with me when I saw the news on Sept 11th, I was in my full dress blues being a recruiters assistent for free leave. This was my first week home from training after not seeing my family for over a year. I was sitting in the recruitment office watching the televison with goosebumps and when I broke into tears when I saw the first tower collapse and I knew a bunch of people died. I was told to go home take my uniform off and be on standby until further notice. I logged onto everquest and the chat was pretty much unanimous shock. The screen was filled with Omg's and Wtf's followed by many Why's. I remember buying a laptop a sony vaio and driving with my mother brother and sister from michigan to boston to catch a plane just so I could spend a few more days with them during the drive there.

This game was there when I went overseas for 2 years, hah I remember paying a phone bill of about $400 a month and more because where I was at I couldn't get a service that would allow an unlimited dial up connection with any flat rates so every minute on was another 10 or 20 cents. As my locations changed my friends in everquest remained in one spot along with my necro. It was there when I returned to the states for some upgrade training in Biloxi Mississippi. It was there when I lost my cool and decided to fall deep into a depression known as gambling too much. It was there when I started borrowing money from friends online in my guild who were trying to help but with their kind loans I pissed away playing blackjack. It was still there when I overdrew my account thousands of dollars. It helped me make more money to gamble with this was about the first time I sold an account. I soon started selling plat after I found out how paypal worked when I sold my first account. I borrowed my mothers credit card and opened a bunch of accounts 5 of them this was with her permission ofcourse. I Leveled all of them up to 65 and delved into macroquest. I made a bunch of macros to farm hillgiants and cyclopses and eventually to tradeskill. I made enough money to pay off my debts and give me a fairly respectable savings account for then a 21 year-old.

It was there when I blew my saving away in Oklahoma when they allowed blackjack at the local indian casino. I was there when I told the girl I love to move from Michigan to Oklahoma to live with me and see what happens. It was there two weeks later when we were married in the Jackson county courthouse. It was there when my daughter was born in the jackson county memorial hospital. Everquest was there through the transition of being a military man into a civilian. It was there when I was looking for a job for 6 months after exiting the military. It was there as I went to college and obtained a degree. It has been there when I started my contracting business. When I bought my first house I took a month break till I could arrange the cable to be installed. It was still around when my other daughter was born. Everquest has always been there for me to play and socialize in. I angered people and pleased them. I made friendships that extend out of everquest and either into the real world or into other online games. I made long lasting enemies who have mailed me horrific photographs and people who have sent me death threats via email. Everquest taught me that you can cheat and probably get away with it but in the end all you end up doing is not resubscribing to (not putting in the name) and deciding the game is a bit more fun when you cannot see every mob on your map in real time and having the ability to warp anywhere. I am probably going to be saying goodbye to EQ soon though. Well I've been saying that since I graduated high school who knows though.
